YORK – Donald G. Kroft, 91, of York, passed away Friday, December 1, 2017 at Normandie Ridge Nursing Home. He was the husband of Viola I. (Crone) Kroft whom he married 70 years ago on June 25, 1947.
Mr. Kroft was born June 13, 1926 in York and was a son of the late Ross and Elsie (Kope) Kroft.
He was employed by Noss Lumber Company; Master Wood Products and Brown’s Glass of York. Prior to his long term residency at Normandie Ridge he constructed much of the architectural metal and glasswork in the facility. He often said “I never thought I would be living in the facility that I helped to build”. Mr. Kroft played the drums in the Normandie Ridge percussion band and also served as the “mailman” for the nursing wing.
Throughout his stay at Normandie Ridge he enjoyed the humorous side of nursing home life and loved his caregivers. A special thanks to Shaun, Christina, Janet and Steve. He became “Pappy” to all.
As a young and talented craftsman, “Krofty” proudly served his country in the United States Army during WW II.
In addition to his wife, Viola, Donald is survived by his son Donald J Kroft and his wife Mary of York; two grandchildren Erin Dacheux and Christopher Kroft; two great grandchildren Dalton and Sadie Dacheux; his two sisters, Nancy Dayhoff of Lititz and Phyllis Ness of York and special niece Tonya Wonder of Lititz.
His funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at Normandie Ridge Chapel, 1700 Normandie Drive, York, PA. Viewing will be from 10:00 to 11:00 AM Wednesday at the chapel. Officiating at the service will be Chaplain David Brinker. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery. Flag Folding and presentation will be provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard.
