DOVER – Elva R. (Hoover) Gibbs, 83, of Dover, passed away at 9:00 PM, Friday, December 28, 2018 at Providence Place in Dover. She was the wife of the late Harlan K. Gibbs.
Mrs. Gibbs was born July 11, 1935 in Strinestown and was the daughter of the late Christian and Mamie (Witmer) Hoover.
In 1953 she graduated from Manchester High School in Manchester. She retired in 1995 from Harley Davidson in York after 27 years of employment. Previously she was employed by Caterpillar Tractor in York. She was a member of the Shiloh American Legion and the American Kennel Club. With her husband, Harlan, she owned Kragspoint Kennel in Dover. They lived in Germany for a brief time to purchase German Shepherds for their Kennel. Their dogs were in great demand and took many top prizes, including the Westminister Dog Show. Elva enjoyed traveling, from tropical islands to skiing around the world. Probably most important to her, though, was her family and many friends.
Mrs. Gibbs is survived by her son, Steven Gibbs and his wife Wendy of Dover; 3 grandchildren, Christopher Leathery, Emily Gibbs and Evan Gibbs; 2 great grandchildren, Lily Leathery and Braxtyn Leathery; her sisters, Betty Wentz of York Haven and Peggy Hoover of York, and her two brothers, Christian Hoover, Jr. of Weiglestown, and Raymond Hoover of York. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Denise Leathery, her sister, Flossie Goodwin and her brothers, Kenneth Hoover, Gene Hoover and Russell Hoover.
Her funeral service will begin at 10:00 AM, Saturday, January 5, 2019 at The Diehl Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 87 South Main Street, Mount Wolf. Viewing will be from 9:00 to 10:00 AM, Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Suburban Memorial Gardens, Dover.
