Robert E. Kohler, Sr.

MANCHESTER – Robert E. Kohler, Sr., 58, of Manchester, passed away on Tuesday, December 25, 2018, at York Hospital. He was the husband of JoAnne (Prowell) Kohler whom he married 38 years ago on July 19, 1980.

Robert was born January 19, 1960, in York and was the son of the late Edward and Melba (Mason) Kohler.

He graduated in 1978 from Northeastern High School in Manchester. He was employed for 24 years with Naylor’s Candies in Mount Wolf before retiring in 2002. He volunteered in various fire companies since the early 1990’s before becoming a full time EMT in 2002 with Northeastern Area EMS in Manchester. Robert was awarded the EMT of the year in 2017. He also was an instructor with the American Red Cross. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and motorcycle enthusiast.

In addition to his wife, JoAnne, Robert is survived by his two sons, Robert E. Kohler, Jr. of Manchester, and Eric Sweitzer of Cly; his daughter, Amy Alexander and her husband Anthony of Manchester; two grandchildren, Cameron and Addison; nieces and nephews; great nephews; great great nephew; great great niece; his brothers, Christopher Kohler of Yocumtown, William Kohler of CA, Edward Kohler of Manchester, Tim Kohler of York Haven and Barry Kohler of Dover, and the Prowell family. Robert was preceded in death by his brothers, Clifton, Charles, Jackie and his sisters, Phyllis Freeman, and June Markle.

His funeral service will begin at 12:00 PM, Friday, January 4, 2019, at The Diehl Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 87 South Main Street, Mount Wolf. Viewings will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Thursday, January 3, 2019, and Friday, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM both at the funeral home. Burial will be private. Officiating at his service will be Pastor Monette Newsuan.

  1. From one EMT to another. Rest well, my brother. We’ll take the watch from here. While we are separated by miles, we are close in heart. Your work on earth is not finished. Your legacy to the community will long be remembered.

  2. My heart goes out to the Kohler Family Bob was a wonderful guy himself and his wife were here in 1998 when my husband died they helped out so much I will never forget ! Prayers for the family
