MANCHESTER – Russell E. Stoppard, 90, of Manchester, passed away at 10:02 PM, Thursday, August 16, 2018 at his home. He was the husband of Fairy (Sechrist) Stoppard whom he married 66 years ago on March 29, 1952.
Mr. Stoppard was born May 24, 1928 in East York and was the son of the late Clarence and Pauline (Knaub) Stoppard.
He was a Machinist for Flinchbaugh Company where he started in 1958. Russell proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.
In addition to his wife, Fairy, Russell is survived by his son, Robert L. Stoppard and his wife Debbie of Scranton; his daughter, Carol M. Goodenough and her husband, Jon of Manchester; two grandchildren, Chris and his wife, Laurie, and Esther, and one great granddaughter, Laila. Mr. Stoppard was preceded in death by his two brothers, Truman Stoppard and Leonard Stoppard, and his sister, Clara Becker.
His funeral service will begin at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at The Diehl Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 87 South Main Street, Mount Wolf. Viewing will be from 1:00 to 2:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Kreutz Creek Cemetery in Hellam Township. Officiating at the service will be Chaplain Bryce Stone. York County Veterans Honor Guard will provide military honors at the graveside service.
