Charles James Stence, Jr.
MANCHESTER - Charles "Butch" James Stence, Jr., 69, of Manchester, passed away Sunday, May 6, 2012 at York Hospital. He was the companion of Alice Ruppert of Mount Wolf.
Charles was born November 1, 1942 in Columbia, Lancaster County and was the son of the late Charles J., Sr., and Blanche Louise (Aston) Stence.
He was employed and retired from Overnight Trucking Company and also had worked, at one time, for Newberry Twp. Highway Maintenance Department in Newberry Township. Charles also assisted at Ambassador Bible Chapel as a Deacon and also operating the Audio Equipment for services. He was a member of the Hawks Gunning Club in York and the Ambassador Bible Chapel in Manchester.
Charles is survived by his daughter Blanche Ritter and her husband Roger of Mechanicsburg; his two grandsons, Chad Stence of York, Roger Ritter of Mechanicsburg; his great granddaughter, Annette ; his two brothers, Robert Shaffer of York and Kenneth Shaffer of Mississippi; and his three sisters, Jane Ball of York, Anna Mae Wagner of Mount Wolf, and Darlene Abel of York. Charles was preceded in death by his grandson, William Ritter; and his two sisters, Ella Bennett and Kay Ann Stence.
His memorial service will begin at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 17, 2012 at Ambassador Bible Chapel, 3000 York Haven Road, Manchester. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m., Thursday at the church. Officiating at his service will be his pastor The Reverend David Slautterback. Burial will be private.
