Obituary

YORK- Mel Blouse, 82, of York accepted the ultimate invitation on October 20, 2026. An RSVP was not required.

Born September 16, 1944 in York PA, Mel was the son of the late Melvin T. Blouse and Virginia E. Freed.  He was the beloved husband of Kim Davin Blouse, with whom he shared 50+ wonderful years.

Mel was predeceased by his beloved son Daniel John in 2018.   In addition to his loving wife, Mel is survived by his brother Gary Blouse and sister-in-law Joann,  mother-in-law Peggy Davin, daughter-in-law Deanna Blouse, grandchildren Ryan Bleacher and Kyra Bleacher, adopted granddaughter Amanda Singer and great granddaughter Ella Rose Singer.  Also survived by nieces and nephews Gary Blouse, Jr. (Vicki), Deborah Fleegle (Chuck), Chris Price (John), Steve Blouse (Lisa), Edward Blouse (Natalie) and Yvonne Urey (Bill), in addition to numerous great nieces and nephews.  Niece Teresa Smith predeceased him.

Mel attended Central York High School.  After graduation he started his career at Bi-Comp in York and later transferred to The Maple Press Company, Book Manufacturers in York PA.  Mel always expressed sincere appreciation for the career given him by Maple Press. His 35 year career was the old school tradition starting as the entry level mail room clerk and working your way up to sales and corporate management.  After retirement from Maple Press, Mel traveled for Eska Graphic Board, a Netherlands company.

Outside of professional life, Mel enjoyed travel with his wife, his 35 year record of golf trips to Florida with his buddies, his beloved weekend getaway in Caledonia and time with family and friends.  In his earlier years, Mel enjoyed cool cars, hunting, Harleys, his tree farm in Huntingdon County, his dog BV, as well as membership and camp weekends in the Emigsville Rod and Gun Club.  Mel had fond memories of his childhood at Kreutz Creek Presbyterian Church in Hellam and returned there for worship as an adult.

Mel was the quiet guy in the room.  His unexpected and spontaneous dry sense of humor was a hallmark of his character.  Many have repeated  "He was a good man." as his wife repeats "No man could have loved me more."

A service will be held at Kreutz Creek Presbyterian Church in Hellam on Saturday, November 14, 2026.  Visitation is from 1-2 pm and services at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kreutz Creek Presbyterian Church, 85 Old Church Lane, York PA  17406. (Mel Blouse memorial)
