Phyllis L. Diehl

Wood River Junction, RI - Phyllis L. (Melhorn) Diehl, 89, of Wood River Junction, Rhode Island, passed away on Saturday, January 8, 2022, at the Connecticut Hospice in Branford, CT.  She was born on August 5, 1932, in York, PA. to the late Wilbur Melhorn Sr., and the late Mabel C. (Livingston) Melhorn Stockman.  Phyllis was a long-time resident of Mount Wolf, PA, where she lived with her late husband, Leonard E. Diehl Jr.

Phyllis is survived by two sons, Wade Diehl of Wood River Junction, RI and Bret Diehl of Manchester, PA.  She is also survived by close family associates who loved her dearly, including Wade's partner Renee Stoops, and Bret's partner Deborah Reeder.  Mike and Kim Williams of Ashaway, RI., and their daughters Julia and Alexa were like family to Phyllis and she spent many of her happiest hours in Rhode Island in their presence.  Phyllis was preceded in death by her brothers Wilbur Jr., Kenneth, and Dale as well as by her sisters Ruth Ann Bodie, Joyce Calhoun, Polly Gaines, and Esther Armstrong.

Phyllis worked part-time in secretarial positions while raising her family; later in life she was employed by Boscov's.  She enjoyed many summers at the family cottage in Woodland Beach, Delaware where she was the most gracious hostess to a steady procession of family members and friends every year.  In 2017, Phyllis embarked upon a late life adventure, moving to Rhode Island where she lived an independent, active life until a few weeks before her passing.

A memorial service for Phyllis will begin at 10:00 AM, Friday, January 14, 2022, at Diehl Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 87 South Main Street, Mount Wolf.  Burial will be in Manchester Union Cemetery in Manchester, PA.
