Bernice C. Landis
YORK – Bernice C. (Gentzler) Landis, 100, of York, passed away, Saturday, November 4, 2023, under the care of Hospice and Community Care in Mount Joy where she resided for six hours. She lived with her sons for five years. She was the wife of the late Leroy W. Landis who passed away on May 22, 2016.
Mrs. Landis was born December 27, 1922, in York New Salem and was the daughter of the late Stuart and Edith (Smith) Gentzler
She graduated in 1940 from West York High School in West York. She was employed by Dentist Supply in York. She was a member of St. Jacob's Lutheran Church where she served on the Altar Guild, church greeter, helped with making church meals, Secretary of the Sunday School class, taught Bible School, volunteered at the Lutheran Home, and assisted with raising money for the Lutheran Home,
Mrs. Landis is survived by her two sons, Scott Landis and his wife Rose of Smithsburg, MD, and Bruce Landis and his wife Cathy of Dallastown, PA; four grandchildren, Kelly Landis, Tara Landis, Derek Landis, and Cassandra Landis; six great grandchildren, Cameron, Riley, Hadley, Peyton, Brexton, and Tucker; and her three sisters, KayAnn Cannon of Loganville, PA., Nancy Bupp of York, PA, and Treva Zartman of Spring Grove, PA. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Lorna Hauck, Ramona McCleary, Mary Gladfelter, and Audrey Gillis; her brothers, Rodney Gentzler, Jim Gentzler, Donald Gentzler, Terry Gentzler, and John Gentzler.
Her funeral service will begin at 12:00 PM, Monday, November 13, 2023, at St. Jacob's Lutheran Church, 99 East George Street, York New Salem, PA. Her viewing will be from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, Monday at the church. Her burial will be in St. Jacob's Union Cemetery adjoining the church. Officiating at the service will be her pastor, Reverend Lisa Hair. Arrangements have been entrusted to Diehl Funeral Home & Cremation Center of Mount Wolf.
