Betty L. Chapman
YORK – Betty L. Chapman, nee Melhorn, passed away on Saturday, February 11, 2023, from natural causes at SpiriTrust Lutheran at Sprenkle Village in York. She was 93. She is preceded in death by her husband Dwight, her brother Kervin and her two sister-in-laws, Hilda Chapman Melhorn and Nadine Chapman Kosicki.
Betty graduated from North York High School in 1947. She worked as a secretary and then later as a Claims Adjuster for Nationwide Insurance until 1980, when she and Dwight relocated to their beloved Green Valley, AZ. While there she worked as a claims adjuster for Prudential from which she retired in 1991. They moved back to York in March 2013.
Betty was a member of Starview United Church of Christ where she sang with the choir. In Green Valley, she and Dwight were members of The Valley Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the Arizona Businesswomen’s Association and the Tri-State Club.
She and Dwight traveled extensively to Mexico, Holland, Belgium, England, France, Italy, Panama, China, Japan, Korea, Canada, Bermuda, and the Caribbean.
Betty is survived by her only niece, Victoria Knisely and her husband, Gary of Dover; two nephews, Mark and Robert Kosicki of York; two great nieces and two great nephews.
Burial at Susquehanna Memorial Gardens will be private. A Celebration of Life Service is scheduled to begin at 10:00 AM Saturday, April 29, 2023, at Starview United Church of Christ, 4832 North Sherman Street, Extd. Officiating at her service will be Reverend Laura Bair-Baker. Arrangements have entrusted to Diehl Funeral Home & Cremation Center of Mount Wolf.
