Betty Sweitzer Obituary

Betty Lou Sweitzer

GOLDSBORO - Betty Lou Sweitzer, 87, of Goldsboro, passed away Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at Hershey Medical Center.  She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Raymond Sweitzer who passed away in 1993, and her parents, George, and Freda (Byers) Yinger.

She was a loving and devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to all whose lives she touched.  Betty Lou was born in Goldsboro, Pennsylvania, on July 10, 1936, to George and Freda Yinger. As a young child, Betty Lou experienced the true meaning of love and sacrifice from family, friends, and community after surviving a yearlong battle with Polio at the age of 8. God purposed that season in her life to develop a strong, kind, and caring heart to be loved and shared by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

She graduated from New Cumberland High School in 1954, where she was given the nick name “Proxy” due to her beautiful long blonde hair. She enjoyed playing basketball for New Cumberland H.S.  In her senior year she was elected as “May Queen” because of her kind heart, gentle spirit, and love towards others. Those characteristics remained prominent throughout her remaining days here on earth. It was during those years she met the love of her life, Raymond Sweitzer, and they were married in the Winter of 1955.

Betty enjoyed taking the train from Goldsboro to her job at the Harrisburg Bank, then at Shiney Brite, and later as a Quality Inspector at Beaman’s Mfg., and Berg Electronics, which later became DuPont, where she made many lifelong friends.

As a beloved mother, she is survived by Daryl (wife Kathy) and Cindy (husband Bob), proud grandmother of Kristie, Brett (wife Shannon), Eric (wife Jessica), Katie (husband Shaun), and Noelle. She was exceedingly proud to be a great grandmother of 12 children and they embraced her as their beloved GiGi. She was the beloved sister of Emma Jane (husband Dan) and beloved aunt of Amy (husband Roland), and their three children, who shared their love towards her unconditionally.

We invite you to join us in a celebration of Betty Lou’s life and legacy as she embraces her eternal life with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
