Brenda R. Weirich
MANCHESTER – Brenda Rosann (Gembe) Weirich, 75, went to meet her heavenly Father on Sunday, February 14, 2021 after a 2.5 year battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born in York Hospital to Hubert and Bertha (Gladfelter) Gembe. Brenda was married to her high school sweetheart, Nevin Weirich, for 55 years. She leaves two children, her daughter, Kelly Myers and her husband Jody of Manchester, PA, and her son, Matthew Weirich and his wife Rochelle of Fulton, MD. She leaves behind four grandchildren, Grant and Drake Myers and Grace and Tyler Weirich.
Brenda was a 1963 graduate of Northeastern High School and a 1974 graduate of York College where she graduated first in her class. She was an elementary school teacher in the Northeastern School District for 26 years. She was a member of the YCPASR (York County PA School Retirees).
Brenda was a 50+ year member of Otterbein United Methodist Church in Mount Wolf, PA where she served as a Sunday school teacher, Youth Fellowship leader and served on many committees. She also was a volunteer for the Northeastern Clothing Bank, Northeastern Food Pantry and a home deliverer of meals for Northeastern Senior Center Meals on Wheels. Brenda was a member of the White Rose Wanderers, a walking club. She and Nevin loved to walk and were proud to say that they did a walk in all 50 states including more than 650 walks around the country.
Besides her husband, children and grandchildren, Brenda is survived by two sisters-in-law, Nancy Gembe of Greencastle, PA and Dawn Gembe of Mount Wolf, PA. On her husband’s side, she is survived by five brothers-in-law, Larry Weirich and wife Dona of Manchester, PA, Robert Weirich, Royce Weirich and wife Jane, Glenn Weirich and wife Carol all of Mount Wolf, PA and Dave Weirich and wife Lois of York, PA; three sisters-in-law, Pat Kendig, Peg Senft and husband Jim, Karen Nicholas and husband Charlie all of Manchester, PA. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their families. She was predeceased by her parents, mother and father-in-law, her three brothers, Gary, Donald and Jeffrey Gembe and her sister, Linda Gembe Baker and a brother-in-law, Clair Kendig.
Funeral services and burial for Brenda will be private. Because of Covid concerns the family will delay any public funeral services until this summer. A Celebration of Life service will be scheduled during a safer time for family and friends. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Diehl Funeral Home and Cremation Center of Mount Wolf.
