Claude L. Markel

YORK HAVEN – Claude L. Markel, 81, of York Haven, passed away at 12:51 PM, Monday, December 6, 2021, at UPMC Memorial Hospital.  He was the husband of Shirley A. (Markley) Markel who passed away on November 24, 2011.

Claude was born January 31, 1940, in York and was the son of the late Claude and Ruthanna (Dubs) Markel.  

He graduated from Susquehannock High School in Glen Rock.  He was employed by the New Cumberland Army Depot and previously the International Paper Company in York Haven.  He was a member of the Goldsboro Fireman’s Club; Wago Club and the Vikings Club.

Claude is survived by his daughter, Sherry Bare and her husband Harold III of York; 2 grandchildren, Darick Bare and his partner Jason and Darin Bare and his wife Natasha; 2 great grandsons, Austin and Avery, and his brother, Stuart Markel of Loganville.   He was preceded in death by his son, Rickey Markel and his brother, Paul Markel.

His funeral service and burial will be private.  Officiating at his service will Reverend James Winter, Sr.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Diehl Funeral Home & Cremation Center of Mount Wolf.
