Della G. Shimmel

YORK – Della G. (Phillips) Shimmel, 86 of York, passed away, Sunday, May 18, 2025, at Autumn House East in York, PA.  She was the wife of Howard D. Shimmel whom he married 68 years ago on May 26, 1956.

Mrs. Shimmel was born May 20, 1938, in Philipsburg, PA and was the daughter of the late Nancy M. Phillips.

She graduated in 1956 from Philipsburg Osceola Senior High School in Philipsburg, PA.  She was employed by the Department of Education in Harrisburg before retiring.  She was a member of the West Poplar Street Church of God.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Shimmel is survived by her daughter, Vicki Watson and her husband Tim of York, PA; her son, Steven Shimmel and his wife Kathy of Manchester, PA; seven grandchildren, Jessica Shelley, and husband James, Stephanie Lloyd and her husband Ryan, David Etter, Jairus Shimmel and wife Lisa, Alina Ruga and her husband Matthew, Caleb Shimmel and wife Molly, and Nicholas Shimmel and wife Kiersten, and fifteen great grandchildren.  Mrs. Shimmel was preceded in death by her sisters, Nancy Warefield and Lois Phillips

Mrs. Shimmel’s funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM, Friday, May 23, 2025, at Newberrytown Church of God, 2825 Old Trail Road, York Haven, PA.  Her viewing will be from 10:00 to 11:00 AM Friday at the church.  Her burial will be in Manchester Union Cemetery, Manchester, PA.  Officiating at her service will be Pastor Jonathan Bowers. Arrangements have been entrusted to Diehl Funeral Home & Cremation Center of Mount Wolf, PA.
