Delores M. (Lay) Hoover

YORK - Delores M. (Lay) Hoover, 73, of York, passed away surrounded by her family and friends, on Wednesday, October 8, 2025 at Pleasant Acres Rehabilitation & Nursing Center. She was the wife of Paul Hoover, Jr. whom she married on June 3rd, 1969.

Delores was born on May 7, 1952, in York, PA to Martin L. and Anna Mae (Burger) Lay.

Delores was graduate of York Catholic High School. She later went on to be employed by the York County Court House as the Recorder of Deeds for over 25 years. She was a member of Alert Fire Company in Emigsville, Liberty Fire Company in North York, the Firefighters Association of York County, the Old Fire Farts of York County, and the PA Pump Primers. Mrs. Hoover was also a member of Zion Lutheran Church, and had a love for cross stitching.

In addition to her husband, Paul, Delores is survived by her son, Martin Hoover of North York; five grandchildren, Stephanie Forry, Anthony Forry, Jessica Bosserman, Travis Bosserman, and Brianna Hoover; five great grandchildren; her niece, Sara Zeigler, and her nephew, Ian Zeigler and his wife Vanessa. She also leaves behind family that may not be blood, but deeply loved her. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Lisa Forry, and her sister, Patricia Zeigler.

Her visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at Diehl Funeral Home, and at 10:00 AM, Thursday, October 23, 2025 at Zion Lutheran Church, 2215 Brandywine Ln, York, PA. Her funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM, Thursday, October 23, 2025, at Zion Lutheran Church. Her burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Delores to Zion Lutheran Church, or to the Old Fire Farts of York County, 330 Emig Road, York, PA 17406.
