Donald E. Redding

Spring Grove – Donald E. Redding, 88, of Spring Grove, passed away, Friday, October 18, 2024, at York North Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in York.  He was the husband of Darlene P. (Shaffer) Redding who he married 69 years ago on January 29, 1955.

Donald was born July 19, 1936, in York, PA and was the son of the late Melvin and Theresa (Sweitzer) Redding.

He graduated in 1954 from East Berlin Senior High School in East Berlin, PA where he was a member of the 4-H Club.  He was employed as a supervisor by ESAB, the former Alloy Rods, for 42 years before retiring in 1997. Following his retirement in 1997 he was employed by Walmart for 10 years. 

In addition to his wife, Donald is survived by his sons, David Allen Redding of Dover, PA, and Daniel Eugene Redding and his wife, Lorie of Spring Grove, PA, his daughters, Deborah Arlene Olphin and her husband, Phil of New Freedom, PA, and Donna Elaine Shultz and her husband, Jeffrey of Ocala, FL; nine grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren, brother, Larry Redding of Spring Grove, PA, and his sisters, Janet Boyer of Dover, PA, and Rose Snavely of Thomasville, PA.  Donald was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Redding.

Donald’s funeral service will begin at 10:00 AM, Saturday, October 26, 2024 at Diehl Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 87 South Main Street, Mount Wolf, PA.  His viewing will be from 9:00 to 10:00 AM, Saturday at the funeral home.  His burial will be in St. Paul Wolfs Cemetery in York, PA.  Officiating at his service will be Chaplain Katharine Seiler from Grane Hospice.
