Doris Jean Smits

YORK – Doris Jean (Lerew) Smits, 87, of Venice, FL passed away, Monday, December 16, 2024, at Angels Senior Living in Sarasota Florida.  She was the wife of the late Jerome J. “Hilary” Smits who passed away May 5, 2016.

Doris was born November 12, 1937, in Manchester, PA and was the daughter of the late William and Edna (Gladfelter) Lerew.

She was a member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in York.

Doris is survived by her daughter Dianne Hill of Ambrose, GA; daughter Jacquelyn Markey, and her husband Duane of Venice, FL; son Nevin Parr, and his wife Jennifer of York, PA; and son Antone Smits of Fredonia, NY; 4 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and her sister Joyce Williams of Venice, FL.

Her memorial service will begin at 11:00 AM, February 1, 2025, at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 1502 Fourth Avenue, York, PA.  There will be a luncheon at the church following the service. Her burial will be private.  Officiating at her service will be her pastor, Father Grant Ambrose.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Diehl Funeral Home & Cremation Center of Mount Wolf.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Tidewell Hospice.
