Eugene W. Hoover

MOUNT WOLF – Eugene W. Hoover, 79, of Mount Wolf, passed away Monday, December 13, 2021, at York Hospital. He was the husband of the late Shirley A. (Cole) Hoover who passed away on November 20, 2009.

Mr. Hoover was born April 23, 1942, in Saginaw and was the son of the late Woodrow and Olive (Paules) Hoover. 

He graduated in 1960 from Northeastern High School in Manchester, PA. He was employed and retired from York Sheet Metal. He was a member of the Starview Sportsmen Club, York County Beekeeper Association and attended Church of The Open Door in York. He had been a member at York Alliance Church for many years, serving on the Board and in transportation and youth activities.

Eugene is survived by three daughters: Maria Renard and her husband Paul of Manchester; Marian “Susie” Malda and her husband Joe of Red Lion; and Sharon Weidemann and her husband Fred of Saginaw; 11 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren and his sister, Judy Leber of Seven Valleys. He was preceded in death by his sister, Gloria Sharp.

Eugene loved to be outside and enjoyed observing and learning from nature; his garden and bees thrived under his care. He shared his love for fishing and hunting with his grandkids and frequently talked about those times.  He demonstrated his love by preparing large Sunday lunches for all his kids and grandkids, a tradition that spanned for decades. Though he was not inclined to travel himself, he took great pleasure in traveling with his wife Shirley who did. They visited beautiful places throughout America and abroad, yet his favorite place to be, was by her side.

Graveside services for Mr. Hoover will begin at 10:00 AM, Thursday, December 23, 2021, in Hoover’s Cemetery in Starview. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Diehl Funeral Home & Cremation Center of Mount Wolf.
