Gary L. Shearer
MOUNT WOLF – Gary L. "Dan" Shearer, 86, of Mount Wolf, passed away Wednesday, December 24, 2025, at his daughters’ home in York, PA.
Gary was born January 13, 1939, on his grandparents’ dairy farm in East Manchester Township, York County, PA and was the son of the late Earl R. and Theda M. (Decker) Shearer.
He graduated in 1956 from William Penn Senior High School in York, PA. He was employed by Koppers Co for 13 years and he retired from Caterpillar Inc. after 24 years. Later, he retired from New Cumberland Army Depot after 5 years. He was a life member of the Susquehanna V.F.W. Post # 2493 in Mount Wolf, South End Club, Hawks Club, Victory Athletic Association, Starview Sportsmans Club, 13th Ward, Shiloh American Legion Post # 791, R&B Hunting Club, and was a board member, treasurer and vice president of the Wago Club. He was a former member of Post #35 Vietnam War, Inc. He was a lifelong fan of the Baltimore Orioles, Green Bay Packers, and Mount Wolf Wolves. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Gary proudly served his country for 4 years in the United States Army with 16 months overseas in the Korean War.
Gary is survived by his daughter, Stephanie Collins and her husband Brian, his step-daughters, Kimberly Oliver and her husband Robert, and Denise Grim and her husband Michael, son-in-law Bob Huber, three grandchildren, Jazmine Rinehart-Comp and her husband, Kevin, Taylor Grimm and her husband Trevor, and Brandon Kinard and his wife Heather, four step grandchildren, Matthew, Nicole, Lauren, and Karlie; eight great grandchildren, Rhett, Chevelle, Rowan, Reed, Melissa, Conway, and Theo, and one on the way, and his caretaker, Sara Whitehead who was an incredible caregiver to him. Gary was preceded in death by his companion Beverly “Babe” Sipe.
His viewing will be Tuesday, December 30, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Diehl Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 87 South Main Street, Mount Wolf, PA, and Wednesday, December 31, 2025, from 12:00 to 1:00 PM at the funeral home. His funeral service will begin at 1:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. His burial will be in Mount Rose Cemetery in York. The York County Veterans Honor Guard will provide military honors at the graveside. Officiating at his service will be Pastor Aaron Kunce.
