Gerald “Jerry” F. Heist
MANCHESTER – Gerald “Jerry” F. Heist, 95, of Manchester, passed away Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at Providence Place of Dover. He was the husband of the late Gladys A. (Witmer) Heist who passed away October 25, 2018.
Gerald was born October 11, 1928, in York and was the son of the late Gerald and Mazie (Mickley) Heist.
He attended William Penn High School in York. He retired after 60 years from P.A. & S. Small Co. and Thos. Somerville Company in York. Gerald was the Fire Chief for 12 years for the Union Fire Company #1 of Manchester. He was a member of the Susquehanna Lions Club, The Hawks Club, and the York County Old Timers Baseball. He enjoyed watching baseball, playing golf, playing cards, and spending time with his family. Gerald was a member of Quickel Lutheran Church.
Gerald, is survived by his daughter, Deborah Bruggeman and her husband, Paul of Dover; his son, Gerald W. “Jerry” Heist and his wife, Nancy of York; sister-in-law, Bonnie Kotzer, who was raised by Jerry and Gladys; four grandchildren, Sean Heist and his wife, Danielle, Kelly Owens and her husband, Bryan, Amy Heisey and her husband, Mark, and Eric Bruggeman and his wife, Amy; six great grandchildren; Gavin Heist, Connor Heist, Paige Heist, Aaron Heisey, Olivia Heisey, and Liam Heist, his sister, Lila Holland of CA, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Jason B. Heist, his sisters, Dorothy Shellenberger, Margaret Moul, and Kay Wentz and his brothers, Edward Heist, Philip Heist, Gary Heist and Ronald Heist.
His funeral service will begin at 10:00 AM, Friday, February 23, 2024, at Union Fire Company, 201 York Street, Manchester, PA. His viewing will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Thursday, February 22, 2024, and Friday from 9:00 to 10:00 AM at Union Fire Company. His burial will be in Quickel Cemetery, York. Officiating at his service will be his pastor Reverend Roy Stetler from Quickel Lutheran Church.
