Obituary

Gerald L. Snyder

YORK – Gerald L. Snyder, 73, of York, passed away on Thursday evening, June 17, 2021, at York Hospital.

Gerald was born on November 6, 1947, in York and was the son of the late Paul and Emma (Hovis) Snyder.

He graduated in 1965 from Dallastown Area High School in Dallastown and in 1969 from Maryland Institute College of Art with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Gerald was self-employed since 1980 in the Interior Design and Construction business. He previously worked at Hecht’s Department Stores in the advertising department; Fulton Mehring & Hauser; Hochschild Kohn's department store and McCrory Stores.  He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Dallastown. Gerald proudly served his country in the United States Army.

He is survived by his sisters, Carol Snyder of York, and Elaine Mann and her husband Mike of West York and his treasured nieces and nephews, Scott Snyder and wife, Sherri; Beth Snyder Bulik and husband, VJ; Diane Snyder Stevenson; Krista Snyder Darr and husband, Michael; Jeffrey Mann and wife, Heather; Cathy Mordan and husband, Brian; and Michael Stare, as well as eight great nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his brother, Edwin Snyder, his sister, Kay Fiana Snyder, and his niece, Cindy Stare.
A celebration of life service will begin at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 24, 2021, at Diehl Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 87 South Main Street, Mount Wolf. Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. A private burial will follow. Officiating at his service will be his pastor, Reverend Dr. W. Arthur Grahe.

Gerald loved his family and friends and he loved to travel—and he especially enjoyed combining the two. He traveled across the U.S. with many of them and was well on his way to filling up his National Parks passport. Gerald also loved to cook for family, friends and church events, and anyone who ever had his homemade bread and fresh jams, or a slice of his homemade coconut cake, can attest to just how good he was.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider March of Dimes, 3544 North Progress Ave., Harrisburg, PA, 17110.
