John W. Bury

YORK – John Wolf Bury, 84, of York, passed away, Wednesday, July 6, 2022, at Misericordia Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in York. He was the husband of the late Jeanne A. (Hoffman) Bury who passed away September 17, 1993.

John was born March 20, 1938, in York and was the son of the late Gerald Bury, Sr. and Laura M. (Smeltzer) Bury.

He attended William Penn Senior High School in York class of 1956. He was a self-employed entrepreneur with Bury’s Famous Hamburgers, Johnnie’s Deluxe Rides and Johnnie’s Car Wash. He was a member of Locust Grove United Church of Christ in York. John proudly served his country in the United States Army Airbourne Division in Fort Bragg, NC and was stationed in Japan.

John is survived by his daughter, Lora L. Shue of Manchester, and his granddaughter, Ashley L. Walton, and her wife Emily McNiff of Manchester. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Gerry D. Shue; brothers, Paul Bury, Gerald Bury, Jr., Joseph Bury and Charles Bury, and his sister, Anna Mae Bankert.

A celebration of life service will begin at 11:00 AM, Friday, August 5, 2022, at Locust Grove United church of Christ, 1035 Locust Grove Road, York, PA. Burial will be in Locust Grove United Church of Christ Cemetery. Officiating at the service will be his pastor, Reverend Susan Oelrich. Arrangements have been entrusted to Diehl Funeral Home & Cremation Center of Mount Wolf.
