John Philip Gettys, Sr.

YORK – John Philip Gettys, Sr., 80, of York, passed away Monday, November 18, 2024, at Wellspan York Hospital.  He was the husband of Linda (Leaman) Gettys who he married 29 years ago on June 10, 1995.

John was born May 23, 1944, in York and was the son of the late John and Carrie (Smith) Gettys.

He graduated from York Catholic High School in York and later from York County Vo-Tech in York where he earned his nursing degree.  He was employed by Teledyne-McKay Company for 30 years, Pleasant Acres Nursing Home for 10 years, and Splash Supply Company, all in York, PA.  John owned and was CEO of J&W Electronics, which manufactures battery replacements for Model Trains.  He was a member of Red Lion Model Train Club, York County Beekeepers Association, and Glenview Missionary Alliance in Glen Rock, PA.

In addition to his wife, John is survived by his son, John Gettys, Jr., and his companion, Mickey Jancewski of York, PA; his daughter, Julie Rupp and her husband, Michael of Red Lion, PA; three grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his brother, Lowell Gettys, and his sister, Carleen Dell.

His memorial service will begin at 11:00 AM, Saturday, November 30, 2024, at Glenview Missionary Alliance, 10037 Susquehanna Trail South, Glen Rock, PA.  His visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 AM, Saturday at the church.  His burial will be private.  Officiating at his service will be Jay Harvey, a good friend and a Glenview Missionary Alliance member.
