MOUNT WOLF – Joyce (Tarrach) Schaeffer, 85, of Mount Wolf, passed away, Monday, December 7, 2020 at Providence Place in Dover. She was the wife of William H. Schaeffer who she married 63 years ago on August 24, 1957.

Mrs. Schaeffer was born September 6, 1935 in Lebanon and was the daughter of the late Ralph and Blanche (Bleistein) Tarrach.

In 1953 she graduated from Lebanon High School in Lebanon. She was a school secretary for over 20 years at Orendorf Elementary School of the Northeastern School District. She was a former member of the Susquehanna Lioness Club; charter member of the York White Rose Twins Club, and Starview United Church of Christ where she sang in the choir and played the piano for the adult Sunday School class.

In addition to her husband, William, Mrs. Schaeffer is survived by her four sons, William Schaeffer and his wife Faye of York, Steven Schaeffer of Manchester, Richard Schaeffer of York and James Schaeffer of Manchester; 6 grandchildren, Laura Mummert (Jeffrey), Eric Schaeffer, Kevin Schaeffer (Jennifer), Emily Schaeffer, Matthew Schaeffer, Katie Schaeffer and great grandson, Mitchell Mummert; and her brother, Raymond Tarrach and his wife Sherren of Chestertown, MD.

A private graveside service for Mrs. Schaeffer will be held at Manchester Union Cemetery. Officiating at the service will be her pastor Reverend Laura Bair. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Diehl Funeral Home & Cremation Center of Mount Wolf.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to Starview United Church of Christ, 4832 North Sherman Street Ext, Mount Wolf, PA 17347 or to the Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Harrisburg, 2595 Interstate Drive, St 100, Harrisburg, PA. 17110.

The family wishes to thank the staff and caregivers in the Connections Unit of Providence Place of Dover and also the staff and nurses of Heartland Hospice of York for their compassionate care and love for Joyce.
