MOUNT WOLF - Lauren Sue (Weigel) Freeman, 56, returned home to her Lord and Savior on February 22, at 1:43 pm. She was born on January 11, 1961 in York, Pennsylvania to the late Woodrow (Woody) Wilson Weigel and the late Helen Cooper Weigel. She is survived by her husband of 32 years Mark Eliot Freeman and her son Phillip Nathaniel Freeman both of Mount Wolf. She is also survived by her three sisters, Jane Poff and Amy Byrnes, both of Manchester, Pennsylvania and Mary Blymire of Manheim, Pennsylvania. Lauren found her calling early in life when she first discovered her fine singing ability. From then on she dedicated her life to music, teaching, children, church and family. She was a graduate of Northeastern High School in York County and graduated from Lebanon Valley College in 1983 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in music. Putting her talents to good use, she appeared in many leading musical theater roles in high school, college and local community theaters. In 1985 she opened a private studio for voice students. Throughout her subsequent thirty year career she served as choir director for various local churches including Saint John's Lutheran Church in Mount Wolf, Starview United Church of Christ in Mount Wolf, Hayshire United Church of Christ in York and the for the last 13 years Christ Lutheran Church in Manchester. Beginning in 2003 she began work as a teacher's aide for the Northeastern School District in York County. Her great love of children and teaching prompted her to return to school in 2007 and graduated in 2011 from Wilson College with a degree and Pennsylvania state certification in elementary education. She subsequently returned to the Northeastern School District and taught for the next three years as a long term substitute. Beloved by all who knew her, she touched the lives of uncounted numbers of children and associates, yet always put family, home, loved ones and service to God above all else. Leaving an empty place in our hearts that can never be filled she will be truly missed. A memorial service for Lauren will be held on Saturday March 4 at 10:00 am at Christ Lutheran Church, 66 South Main Street, Manchester, PA.
