Mary Lou Hendrix

MOUNT WOLF – Mary Lou (Markley) Hendrix of Mount Wolf, passed away, Saturday, July 22, 2023, at Pappus House in York.  She was the wife of the late Arthur T. Hendrix.

Mrs. Hendrix was born in Pennsburg and was the daughter of the late Kehl and Lena (Leh) Markley.

She graduated in 1943, from Pennsburg High School in Pennsburg, PA.  Following high school, she graduated in 1947 from Penn State University with her bachelor’s degree and later with her master’s degree.  After working as a Dietician at York Hospital she taught school at Northeastern Junior High School and later William Penn High School in York where she retired in 1990.  She was an active member of the York Symphony Auxiliary, Red Cross, York Garden Club, Home Economics Club, and St. John Lutheran Church in Mount Wolf.

Mrs. Hendrix is survived by her sons, Art Hendrix and his wife Gloria of Shallotte, NC, John Hendrix and his wife Beth of Lancaster, PA, Robert Hendrix and his wife Cathy of York; seven grandchildren, and fourteen great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her sister, Madelyn Kulp and her brother, Kehl Markley.

A memorial service for Mrs. Hendrix will begin at 11:00 AM, Friday, August 18, 2023, at St. John Lutheran Church, 28 North Third Street, Mount Wolf.  Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11:00 AM, Friday at the church.  Her interment will be private in Prospect Hill Cemetery.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Diehl Funeral Home & Cremation Center of Mount Wolf.
