YORK – Mary E. (Hamilton) Smith, 83, of York, PA., passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at her home with her immediate family by her side.  She was the wife of Milton L. Smith, whom she spent 63 years of marriage on July 22, 1962.

Mary was born February 20, 1942, in York County, PA and was the daughter of the late William F. Hamilton and Carrie (Smith) Hamilton.

She graduated in 1960 from Northeastern High School in Manchester, PA.  She was employed at Bern Haven Sewing Factory in Mount Wolf and retired from S & E Auto Recon, Inc.  Mary was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.  She and her husband Milt took pride in attending most if not all of her family’s sports activities far and wide.  She was her family’s biggest fan, supporter, and cheerleader in every and all stages of their lives.  Mary was an avid seamstress, a textbook housewife, and an amazing home cook with legendary fudge and mashed potatoes.  She loved traveling and endless drives in the country.  She loved gardening and flowers. She was a jack of all trades and could find a fix for any problem or issue that came her way.

In addition to her husband, Mary is survived by her son, Scott L. Smith of Dallastown; her grandchildren, Michael Smith and his wife Kayla of Manchester, PA, Britta Godfrey and husband Tucker of Red Lion, PA, and Ashtyn Smith of Red Lion, PA; her great grandchildren, Lillie Godfrey, Beau Godfrey, Loretta Godfrey, Lorilei Godfrey, and Charlotte Darrah; a bonus granddaughter, Faith Reiff of Manchester, PA along with numerous, nieces and nephews; her daughter-in-law, Tammy Smith of Manchester, PA; her sisters, Norma Hatterer of Red Lion, PA., and Freda Sands and her husband Robert of Mount Wolf, PA,  Mary was preceded in death by her son, Steven L. Smith who died in 1994 and her brother, Don E. Hamilton who died in 2005.

A viewing for Mary is scheduled for Tuesday, May 6, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Diehl Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 87 South MainStreet, Mount Wolf.  Her burial will be private in Freysville Cemetery.
