MANCHESTER - Michael “Mike” L. Hopwood, 81, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2022, at ProMedica nursing facility. He was born September 25, 1941, at York Hospital. He was the son of the late Joseph H. and Elizabeth L. (Sowers) Hopwood.

Mike was a 1959 graduated from Northeastern High School. Following graduation, Mike attended a commercial art school and went on to work at Shiny Bright Corporation. He was than employed at Katherine Beecher mints in Manchester and retired from Warrell Creations.

In Mike’s spare time, he enjoyed oil painting and was an avid gardener. Mike’s greatest interest was visiting Williamsburg, Virginia and talking to anyone about the Revolutionary and Civil wars. He also enjoyed listening to classical music, watching old Western movies, and reading any books about Sherlock Holmes.

Mike is survived by his sister, Jo Sweeney of York, PA and her three children; Nikki Sweeney of Lancaster, PA; Sara Weaver and her husband Jeremy and their two children, Emma, and Walker of York, PA; and JJ Sweeney and wife Shelby of Spring Grove, PA. He is also survived by an Aunt Evelyn and many cousins. He will also be missed by a long-time dear friend, Carol Garner of Dover, PA.

A service of remembrance will begin at 7:00 PM, Monday, October 17, 2022, at Diehl Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 87 South Main Street, Mount Wolf. Burial will be private in Mount Rose Cemetery.  Officiating at his service will be Reverend Philip K. Nace.
