Nancy L. Walker
YORK – Nancy Lou (Straub) Walker, 86, of York, passed away on Friday, August 16, 2024, at York Hospital, York, PA. She was the wife of the late Irwin L. Walker who passed away on September 24, 1995.
Mrs. Walker was born on September 16, 1937, in Sunbury, PA and was the daughter of the late Oliver and Myra (Reichenbach) Straub.
She was previously employed by Bernhaven Sewing Factory in Mount Wolf, PA. She was a member of Mount Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in York. Upon retirement, she took great pleasure in being a caregiver to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She had many friends, enjoyed playing cards, reading, and building puzzles. She was known for her PA Dutch chicken pot pie, sand tarts, mincemeat cookies, and black magic cake. Her wit and candor were second to none and she will be greatly missed.
Mrs. Walker is survived by her daughters, Doreen Bowders and her husband Brian of York, and Dawn Wuorinen and her husband Duane of Dover; her sons Douglas Walker and his wife Beth of Spring Grove, David Walker of York, and her daughter-in-law Susan Walker (widow of Daniel Walker); 10 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, her sister Jean Leiphart of Red Lion, and various nieces and nephews. Mrs. Walker was preceded in death by her son, OSCS (SW) Daniel Walker, USN (Ret); her sisters, Dorothy Stump, Sara Osman, Mary McCullough, Patricia Combs, Betty Mull, and Stella Bortner; her brothers, Archibald “Bud” Straub, James Straub, Jacob Straub, and David Straub.
Her funeral service will begin at 12:00 PM, Thursday, August 22, 2024, at Mount Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2164 Mount Zion Road, York, PA. Her visitation will be from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, Thursday at the church. Her burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens, York, PA. Officiating at the service will be her pastor, Reverend Robert Burkhart.
