Ray E. Hykes
MANCHESTER – Ray E. Hykes, 91, of Manchester, passed away Thursday, December 26, 2024, at York North Rehabilitation Center. He was the husband of Dolores K. (Ritzman) Hykes of Manchester and the late Adella F. (Traver) Hykes who passed away May 5, 1988.
Ray was born March 28, 1933, in Strinestown, PA and was the son of the late Harry and Florence (Bair) Hykes.
He graduated in 1951 from Manchester High School in Manchester, PA. He was self-employed with Hykes Quality Feed Mill until his retirement in 1992. After his retirement he was employed by Conewago Township for 18 years as a supervisor, York Rescue Mission and Codorus Stone. He was a life member of the Strinestown Community Fire Company for 65 years and served 64 years as their treasurer, a lifelong member of the former Strinestown United Brethren Church in Strinestown, PA and served on the board of the Strinestown Cemetery Association. He proudly served his country in the United States Army.
In addition to his wife, Ray is survived by his daughters, Deborah R. Egresites of Halifax, PA, and Lori Hykes Brunner and her husband Larry of York Haven, PA; three grandchildren, Rebekah, Elisabeth, and Daniel; three great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Samuel N. Hykes and his son-in-law, Frank Egresites.
His funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM, Friday, January 3, 2025, at Diehl Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 87 South Main Street, Mount Wolf, PA. His visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 AM Friday at the funeral home. His burial will be in Strinestown Cemetery in Manchester, PA. Officiating at his service will be Pastor Alan Harbold.
