Richard E. Rice

YORK – Richard Edward Rice, 85, of York, passed away, Friday, November 25, 2022, at his home in York.  He was the husband of Patsy A. (Markel) Rice.

Mr. Rice was born January 26, 1937, in Reading, PA and was the son of the late Donald Edward and Mary (Manning) Rice.

He graduated in 1954 from Wilson High School in Reading, PA., where he earned Varsity Letters in Baseball, Basketball and Football and was awarded the Babe Ruth Sportsmanship award.  He attended East Stroudsburg University for two years as a Physical Education Major.  He enjoyed coaching and playing all sports.  He worked in Management and Sales for Hershey Ice Cream Company for 10 years, Dairylea in New York State, Harrisburg Dairies for 23 years and retired from Rutters after 6 years.  He is a member of Bible Baptist Church in York. 

In addition to his wife, Patsy, Mr. Rice is survived by Michael Rice and his wife Marty of San Antonio, TX; Peggyjo Barrett and her husband John of Buffalo, New York and Anne Baker and her husband John of Lynchburg, VA; a stepson, James Wright of Strinestown, PA, and a stepdaughter, Tammy Flaharty of Windsor, PA; nine grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.  Mr. Rice was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Styler.

His funeral service will begin at 10:00 AM, Saturday, December 03, 2022, at Diehl Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 87 South Main Street, Mount Wolf.  Viewing will be from 9:00 to 10:00, AM Saturday at the funeral home.  Burial will be in Mount Rose Cemetery.  Officiating at his service will be Pastor Bill Schutt.
