Richard L. Rode
MANCHESTER – Richard L. Rode, 85, of Manchester, passed away Tuesday, November 9, 2021, surrounded by his loving family after a long courageous battle with cancer. He was the husband of Stella (Weirich) Rode whom he married 66 years ago on November 19, 1955.
Richard was born September 20, 1936, in York Haven and was the son of the late Ernest R. and Ethel L. (Helman) Rode.
He attended Manchester High School in Manchester. He was employed by the former International Paper Company in York Haven and retired in 2003 from Campbell Cooper Tool in York. He was a former member of the Susquehanna Fire Company in York Haven and attended Ambassador Bible Chapel in Manchester. Richard proudly served in the United States Army.
Richard was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather who was a Phillies fan and loved Penn State.
In addition to his wife, Stella, Richard is survived by his daughter, Roxanne Harman of Dover; his grandson, Tyler Harman and his wife Abby; his great granddaughter, Emma Harman; his sister-in-law, Joyce Rode, and many nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Joel Harman, his brothers, Donald Rode, Walter Rode and his sisters, Carolyn Seigle and Barbara Sanger.
His funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM, Saturday, November 13, 2021 at Diehl Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 87 South Main Street, Mount Wolf. Viewing will be from 10:00 to 11:00 AM, Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Manchester Union Cemetery in Manchester. Officiating at his service will be Reverend James Winter, Sr. The York County Veterans Honor Guard will provide military honors at his graveside service.
