Roy W. Rohrbaugh

YORK – Roy W. Rohrbaugh, 89, of York, passed away, Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at Normandie Ridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in York.  He was the husband of the late Eva Jean (Small) Rohrbaugh who passed away November 21, 2022.

Roy was born February 15, 1935, in York and was the son of the late Charles and Hazel (Smith) Rohrbaugh.

He graduated in 1953 from North York High School in North York, PA and in 1973 from Campbell College, NC.  He attended the Naval School of Music and received his Bandsman Certificate in 1957 and his advanced Bandsman Certificate in 1962.  Roy proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1954 to 1974.  He served in Japan, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Germany, and the United States.  He served with the Army 11th Airborne Division, 82nd Airborne Division, and 508 Airborne Combat team. He was certified as a Jumpmaster in the 101st Airborne Division.  He was a member of the Army Band from 1956 to 1974 where he played Trumpet, and Solo Trumpet.  He was described as a highly respected Bandmaster in the latter part of his career.  He retired in 1974 as Chief Warrant Officer, Level 4 Adjutant General’s Corps.

Roy is survived by his daughter, Gloria Snyder of York his sons, Karl Rohrbaugh of Manchester, and Larry Moss of TN; 8 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren, his sister, Marianne Maurer of Etters, PA, and nieces and nephews.  Roy was preceded in death by his sister, Gloria (Rohrbaugh) Stambach and his grandson, Justin Snyder.

His funeral service and burial will be a private family service at Fort Indiantown Gap Military Cemetery in Annville, PA.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Diehl Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Mount Wolf.
