Ruthanna Jean Krout
YORK - Ruthanna Jean Krout entered eternal rest on July 27, 2024, at the age of 92.
She was the daughter of Cletus and Helen (Kauffman) Krout. Her sisters Gloria Mae Martz and Mary Ida DeMoss preceded her in death. She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Jan (husband, Dean) Kolba, of Cary, North Carolina, Diana (husband, Britt) Mayo, of Houston, Texas, Gary (wife, Cathy) Martz of Columbus, Ohio, and LTC James (wife, DeAnna) DeMoss (Ret) of Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Ruthanna graduated from North York High School in 1949, and she and her sisters lived and worked together for a time at the YWCA in York. She was employed at Bethlehem Steel’s office in York until it closed in the 1980s. Ruthanna then focused on childcare. She had a gift for connecting with and caring for children.
Ruthanna was known as Jeannie to her family and was the type of Aunt who was like a second mother and always found ways to make special memories, whether it was a trip to New York Times Square for New Year’s Eve, trips to Washington, DC, bicycling, bad mitten, or converting a chicken coop to a playhouse. She was a life-long member of the congregation at Quickel Lutheran Church in York and over the years was active as a Sunday school teacher and in various other programs.
There will be a memorial service celebrating her life on Friday, August 23, 2024, at 11:00 am at Quickel Lutheran Church, 60 E. Canal Rd., York, PA 17406. Her burial will be in Quickel Lutheran Church Cemetery. Officiating will be her pastor The Reverend Roy Stetler. Arrangements have been entrusted to Diehl Funeral Home & Cremation Center of Mount Wolf.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Quickel Lutheran Church in her memory.
