Walter Rayburn Sandy

RED LION – Walter Rayburn (Ray) Sandy, 80, of Red Lion, passed away, Saturday, February 17, 2024, at his home in Red Lion.  He was the loving husband of Nanette (Schauer) Sandy who he married 56 years ago on April 22, 1967.

Ray was born January 15, 1944, in Marion, North Carolina and was the son of the late Walter L. and Jimmie (Smith) Sandy. 

He graduated in 1962, from West York High School in West York, PA and later from York College of Pennsylvania in 1971 with a BS degree in Accounting.  He was employed for over 25 years before retiring in 2009 from Rutter’s Corporation as the Vice President of Finance.  He was an active member of Bethany Church of York where he served as the treasurer, financial secretary, lay member to annual conference, and certified lay speaker as well as serving on church council, chancel choir, and various committees.  Ray proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1967-1970. 

In addition to his wife, Ray is survived by his children, Laura Black and her husband Brad of Berlin, MD, Michael Sandy and his wife, Patricia of West Chester, PA, and Elizabeth Brooks and her husband Ron of Downingtown, PA; seven grandchildren, Taylor Case and her husband Tyler, Alexis Black, Isabelle and Quintin Sandy, and Veronica, Lilah and Wade Brooks; his great grandson, Riggs Case.

He is also survived by his only sister, Martha Goodling of York and was preceded in death by his brother, Jimmie Sandy.

Ray’s celebration of life will begin at 10:30 AM, Saturday, March 2, 2024, at Bethany Church of York, 1401 Mount Rose Avenue, York.  Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 AM Saturday at the church.  Burial will be private in Heiland View Cemetery.  Officiating at his service will be Pastor Wayne Heberlig.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Diehl Funeral Home & Cremation Center of Mount Wolf.
