YORK – Ervin E. Lehr, Jr., 81, of York, passed away at 8:55 AM, Monday, May 1, 2017 at his home. He was the husband of Virginia (Garrod) Lehr whom he married 61 years ago on December 20, 1955.
Ervin was born June 18, 1935 in York and was the son of the late Ervin, Sr., and Della (Moose) Lehr.
He graduated in 1953 from North York High School in York. He was employed by Service America for over 40 years and retired in 2002 from Rutters. Ervin played golf for many years and was an avid racquet ball player into his 80’s. A dedicated racing fan from age 3, he traveled widely to attend local and national races, including 60 runnings of the Indianapolis 500. Always a kid at heart, he took his family to Disney World many times, most recently to celebrate his 60th wedding anniversary. He was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church of Roundtown.
In addition to his wife, Virginia, Ervin is survived by his two daughters, Robin Weist and former son-in-law Curtis Weist; Paige Lehr-Howard and her husband, Eric; five grandchildren, Caroline Weist, Josiah Weist and his wife Christina, Zane Howard, Greyson Howard and Hawkins Howard; his brother, Clarence “Butch” Lehr and his wife, Patricia; and his five sisters, Dorothy Mathison, Marti Heath, Jane Simon, Nancy Bowman and her husband, Bruce, and Jean Ort; numerous nieces and nephews and his in-laws, Janet Chinault and her husband, Jim and Gene Garrod and his wife, Barb. Ervin was preceded in death by his sister, Sara Bororr.
A celebration of life service will begin at 3:00 PM, Sunday, May 7, 2017 at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church of Roundtown, 498 Church Road, York. Burial will be private. Officiating at the service will be his pastor the Reverend Stephen Yambor. Arrangements have been entrusted to The Diehl Funeral Home & Cremation Center of Mount Wolf.
