Joseph (Joe) F. Knezic, Sr. of York Haven, PA passed away peacefully on the evening of December 14, surrounded by loving family. He was 91.
Joe was born August 5, 1926 in York Haven to Barbara and Andrew Knezic.
He is survived by daughter Nancy Owen of Coronado, CA, sons Kevin of York, PA, Terry of Midlothian, VA, and Joseph Jr. of Harrisburg, PA. He also leaves behind a sister, Helen Krout of York Haven, as well as cherished grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Elva; sisters Millie, Ann and Mary; brother Mike; and first wife Beatrice.
Joe was known as a hard-working and good-natured soul. He possessed a never-ending sense of humor that he shared with nearly everyone he encountered, particularly waitresses at his favorite restaurants.
He was proud to have served his country during World War II. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1944 and served in the 2nd Infantry Division until his honorable discharge as a Staff Sergeant in 1947. His tour of duty took him across the country and to France and Germany.
Joe was a good provider for his family, making sure they were never without. He worked at International Paper Company, Three Mile Island and Met-Ed until his retirement in the early 90’s.
When not working around the house or helping out a neighbor, he enjoyed being outdoors, particularly trout fishing and deer hunting. He named his hunting cabin Heavenly Hideaway for a reason-it was his happy place. Friends and family hope that heaven is fully stocked for his favorite pursuits.
A visitation will be held at Diehl Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 87 South Main Street, Mount Wolf from 9:30 to 10:30 AM on Thursday, December 28th, followed by a service at 10:30 AM to pay tribute to his life.
