YORK – Having believed, trusted, and taken comfort in Christ’s promise of eternal life in a place of love and joy, kindness and peace, Mary Lee Zeigler Bowders accepted this gift on April 6, 2018. Raised in Renovo, PA, Mary Lee moved to York in the early 1950s. She met and married John J Bowders, Senior (d. 2005).
The following year she embarked on her greatest joy – – motherhood. Over the next 13 years she became mom to John, Mary Beth (d. 2016), James, and Jennifer. That joy increased exponentially when she became grandmom to Laura, Sarah (d. 2012), and Leah. Her love of family also ran deep. Siblings Virginia (d. 2015), David (d. 2001), Jim, Ken, and Joan remained an integral part of her life until she took her last breath.
Mary Lee found tremendous joy in caring for others and this took on many forms: serving customers at West York Dunkin’ Donuts, participating in various church groups, caregiving for her husband, and simply loving others without restraint or expectation. While gentle and quiet in nature, Mary Lee had a fierce spirit which she demonstrated throughout her lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s. In remembering Mary Lee, consider slowing down on occasion – – observe the night sky; admire the beauty of a flower; belly laugh; bake something from scratch; be cognizant of kindness; find joy in each day. At her request, please refrain from sending flowers – she always said she wanted bouquets only when she was alive so that she could enjoy them.
A time to celebrate the life of Mary Lee will take place at a later time; please email firstname.lastname@example.org for additional information. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Diehl Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Mount Wolf.
The family suggest donations to the Alzheimer’s Association; or, send flowers to someone you love!
