MOUNT WOLF – Ronald E. Witmer, 85, of Mount Wolf, passed away at 8:25 PM, Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at Normandie Ridge in York. He was the husband of Jean (Strausbaugh) Witmer whom he married 53 years ago on September 19, 1964.
Ronald was born October 11, 1932 in York and was the son of the late Ervin and Dorothy (Krebs) Witmer.
He graduated in 1950 from Manchester High School in Manchester. He was employed by the York County Tax Assessment Office for over 18 years before retiring. He was a bookkeeper for many years with various companies. He also served for over 50 years on the Mount Wolf Borough Council and held various positions over the years. He was a member of the Susquehanna V.F.W. Post 2493 in Mount Wolf; Eagle Fire Company in Mount Wolf; was one of the founders of the Youth Baseball League in Mount Wolf, and was a former member of St. John Lutheran Church in Mount Wolf. He enjoyed attending the Revolutions Baseball Games and the Mount Wolf Baseball Games. He loved bowling at Fun Bowl on the men’s league. Ronald was the best Dad and Friend a family could have hoped for. Ronald proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.
In addition to his wife, Jean, Ronald is survived by his four daughters, Jane Kline and her husband David, Joyce Smith and her husband Bud, Rejean Crone and her husband Brian all of Dover, and Rachel Blouch and her significant other, Shawn of Manchester; 8 grandchildren, Danyale, Matthew, Derek, Andrew, Kelly, Alexis, Fletcher, and Carly; 11 great grandchildren; his brother, Ned Witmer of Conewago, Twp., and his sisters, Beverly “Babe” Sipe of West Manchester Twp, and Leah Sapp of DE. He was preceded in death by his brother, Bobby Witmer and his sister, Sally Richwine.
His viewing will be from 9:30 to 10:30 am, Friday, June 15, 2018 at The Diehl Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 87 South Main Street, Mount Wolf. His service will begin at 10:30 AM, Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Strinestown Cemetery in Conewago Twp., Manchester. Officiating at his service will be The Pastor Ed Rowland from Rohlers Assembly of God in Dover, PA. York County Veterans Honor Guard will provide honors at the graveside.
