YORK – Virginia M. Mattes, 93, entered into rest at 2:22 a.m. on Wednesday, November 27, 2019 at Hershey Medical Center. She was the wife of the late William C. Mattes, Jr. and the late Roman J. Brickner. She was a resident of Country Meadows of Lancaster.
Born August 14, 1926 in York, Virginia was a daughter of the late Harry and Anna E. (Harbold) Rudisill.
She was a homemaker who enjoyed arts and crafts and crocheting afghans. She also loved doing word searches.
Virginia was a member of Salem U.C.C. in Dover.
She is survived by a daughter, Paulette Nickel of Thompsontown; two sons, Harvey Knaub III of Shiloh and Donald Brickner of Harrisburg; a step-daughter, Holly Hughes of Middletown; and a step-son, William Mattes of Middletown; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; a brother, Donald Rudisill of Scottsdale, AZ; and her beloved poodle, Pretty Boy, who visited her often. In addition to her husbands, William and Roman, and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Barry Brickner.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Virginia’s funeral at 11 a.m. and the viewing from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 3, 2019 at Salem U.C.C., 2705 W. Canal Rd., Dover. Burial will follow in Salem Union Cemetery, Dover. Officiating will be the Rev. Philip Nace, retired U.C.C pastor. Arrangements have been entrusted to Diehl Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc. in Mount Wolf.
